  7. Preliminary Banyan VINES Client Installations
  8. ---------------------------------------------
  9. The Banyan VINES LAN software installation requires that you input the IRQ
  10. assigned to the NIC.
  11.  
  12. To determine the IRQ, perform the following steps:
  13.  
  14. 1.  Insert the 3Com Fast EtherLink XL/EtherLink XL Bus Master EtherDisk 1
  15.     diskette in the floppy drive and make that the active drive.
  16.  
  17. 2.  At the DOS prompt type:
  18.  
  19.     3C90XCFG [Enter]
  20.  
  21. 3.  When the main menu appears, select NIC Configuration and press
  22.     [Enter].
  23.  
  24. 4.  The NIC Configuration screen appears with the IRQ shown in the
  25.     Standard Options box.

  28. Banyan VINES Client Installations
  29. ---------------------------------
  30. To install VINES 6.0 software on a DOS NDIS workstation, follow these
  31. instructions.  DOS must be installed on the target workstation C: drive or
  32. you must have a bootable DOS floppy.
  33.  
  34. 1.  Use the DOS MD command to create a subdirectory called \VINES.
  35.  
  36. 2.  Copy the contents of the VINES LAN S/W (DOS) Install diskette into
  37.     the \VINES subdirectory.
  38.  
  39. 3.  Copy the contents of the NDIS subdirectory on the VINES LAN S/W (DOS)
  40.     2 of 2 diskette into the \VINES subdirectory.
  41.  
  42. 4.  Copy the EL90X.DOS and the PROTOCOL.INI fragment from the NDIS2\DOS  
  43.     subdirectory of EtherDisk 1 diskette to the \VINES subdirectory on 
  44.     your system.
  45.  
  46. 5.  Edit the PROTOCOL.INI file to read as follows:
  47.  
  48.     [PROTOCOL MANAGER]
  49.      DRIVERNAME = PROTMAN$
  50.  
  51.     [VINES_XIF]
  52.      DRIVERNAME = NDISBAN$
  53.      BINDINGS = EL90X
  54.  
  55.     [EL90X]
  56.      DRIVERNAME = EL90X$
  57.  
  58. 6.  Run the PCCONFIG.EXE program located in the \VINES subdirectory.
  59.                                                          
  60. 7.  Select option 1, Network Card Settings.
  61.  
  62. 8.  Select the NDIS Ethernet option.
  63.  
  64. 9.  The NDIS Workstation screen appears. Enter the interrupt request 
  65.     number (IRQ) you selected for the 3Com Fast EtherLink XL/
  66.     EtherLink XL Bus Master NIC. 
  67.  
  68. 10.  Edit the CONFIG.SYS file and add the following lines, substituting
  69.      A: for C: for a floppy disk installation.
  70.                                    
  71.      DEVICE = C:\VINES\PROTMAN.DOS /I:C:\VINES
  72.      DEVICE = C:\VINES\EL90X.DOS
  73.  
  74. 11. Insert the following lines in the AUTOEXEC.BAT file:
  75.  
  76.     CD \VINES
  77.     BAN
  78.      
  79.     BAN loads the NDISBAN drivers and reads the PCCONFIG.DB file to
  80.     invoke changes made during the PCCONFIG stage.

  82. Banyan VINES Server Installation
  83. --------------------------------
  84.  
  85. Banyan provides a VINES server driver with the current version of VINES.
  86. Consult the Banyan documentation for installation instructions.
